Google Search Console is the most important free tool any site owner has, and it is the official source from Google itself on how it sees your site. Without it,
What is Google Search Console and why do you need it?
Search Console is a free platform that connects your site directly to Google and shows you data you will not find anywhere else: which keywords your site appears for, how often it is clicked, which pages are indexed, and which technical issues are holding back your visibility. In short, it is the official bridge between you and the most important search engine in Saudi Arabia and the world.
Setting up the tool and verifying ownership
The first step is to prove ownership of the site through one of the supported verification methods:
- DNS record: adding a TXT record to your domain settings, the most comprehensive method because it covers all subdomains and protocols.
- HTML file: uploading a verification file to the site root.
- HTML tag: adding a meta tag to the site homepage.
- Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager account linked to the site.
We always recommend setting up a Domain Property because it gathers data from all versions of the site (www, non-www, HTTP, and HTTPS) in one place.
Reading the Performance report
The Performance report is the beating heart of the tool, and it shows four core metrics:
| Metric | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Clicks | The number of visitors who reached your site from search |
| Impressions | How many times your site appeared in results |
| CTR | The appeal of your title and description in results |
| Average Position | Your average placement for target keywords |
From this report we discover the keywords you rank on page two for that need a small push to reach page one, one of the fastest growth opportunities. We also connect it with
Fixing indexing issues in the Coverage report
The Pages/Coverage report shows which of your pages are indexed and which are not, with the reason for each exclusion. This report ties directly to
- Blocked by robots.txt: an important page prevented by a rule in
robots.txt. - Page carries noindex: a tag preventing indexing that may have been left by mistake.
- Alternate page with a proper canonical tag: Google chose another version, usually normal.
- Crawled but not indexed: may point to weak content quality or value.
We review this report regularly because it is the first to reveal important pages disappearing from the index.
Enhancement and inspection reports
The tool offers additional, highly useful reports:
- Page Experience and Core Web Vitals report: reveals slow pages and poor user experience.
- URL Inspection: tells you the status of any specific URL and lets you request indexing instantly.
- Structured data reports: verify your
Schema is valid and free of errors. - Links: shows the top internal and external links pointing to your site.
